I'm relatively new to MOTO. Bought the 85 for my 15yo son, but he only rode for 10 hours before it would not start.
I recently bought a 2nd hand 85sx 2019. After about 10 hours the bike stalled and no spark. I traced it it a flooded ignition case. Stator was soaked and muddy and the rotor has build up of rust.

New stator in transit. Rotor cleaned up and ignition case cleaned as best I could do.

Advice please.....small hole at base of the casing unit...
Hole was blocked full of caked up mud!!
Whats the hole for?
Can the hole be drained?
Is there a bolt at the end of the hole? Can bolt be removed to clean out the hole??

I'm not familiar with KTM specifically, but my four bikes all vent the stator
area to the crankcase, which vents through the main breather. If you've got
water in the stator, it's other places too, likely.

No idea about the function of the hole, unless it's to return oil
to the crankcase. I'd look carefully for signs of water in other
parts of the engine.

Good luck,

Hi Bob,
I've been offline line so sorry for the delayed response.
Thanks for the advice.
The hole is at the base inside the ignition case so not sure if it would vent that way???... but your guess is as good as mine.
You could be spot on and sounds feasible

I'm getting the bike serviced so will mention to check for water to mechanic.

You mean there is a small hole in the bottom of the sidecover? If so, this is a vent for condensation to drain out. KTMs are not very good at a lot of little details like this - most japanese bikes vent this to the top with a small tube that can't so easily get plugged by mud.

Go fast. Take chances.

One of the last times I'm going to post I guess......

Hi Mike, I've been off line so sorry for the late reply.
Thanks for your feedback.
The hole is inside the ignition case- NOT on the cover. Maybe it is a vent or drain hole for build up, but I don't know where it leads to????
All good, the mechanic will let me know when I get it serviced.
