Stolen motocross bikes recovered, two arrested
WAREHAM MA— Two men were arrested Tuesday on charges of stealing dirt
bikes from a local semi-pro motocross racer, police said.
Joseph Stahmer IV, 18, of 59 Huntington Road, Plymouth, and
Christopher Bartolomey, 22 of 22 Bartlett Lane, East Wareham, were
charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and breaking and entering,
according to a statement from Police Chief Thomas Joyce.
Mr. Stahmer also was charged with possession of marijuana, which was
found on him at the time of the arrest, according to police.
Around 3 a.m. Tuesday, Officer Herbert Noble was monitoring traffic on
Glen Charlie Road in East Wareham when he saw a small pickup truck
speed by him, heading north. When Officer Noble stopped the vehicle,
he saw two dirt bikes in the bed of the truck, one bearing the name of
the motocross racer. Both male occupants said they owned the
motorcycles, but neither could properly describe them .
Another officer was sent to the home of the motocross racer, where it
was discovered that his storage shed had been broken into and his
motorcycle and one belonging to a friend were missing. The owner
described the missing bikes and later went to the scene, where he
identified them, police said.
